The 60s was the time of free loving and hippie vibes and while those days are but distant memories for most, the 60s theme is a very popular one among fancy dress aficionados. Flower power ruled and this is generally the rule of thumb for anyone thinking of buying some 60s fancy dress. Colour-wise there are actually two obvious choices. Bright and colourful is how many of the younger generation consider the typical 60s outfit to be and a psychedelic combinations of yellows, greens, reds, blues and pinks was a fairly common sight during that period. On the other hand, many hippies considered mother earth to be the one and only power and so wore many rustic browns, beiges and whites in simple linen. For both men flairs were a hit fashion trend that almost everyone followed (well into the 70s) so opting for a pair of these is a safe bet. For women, short floral dresses were a more likely choice and a very attractive one at that. The peace symbol was often displayed prominently either around the neck as a pendant or on the jewellery of the time. To complete the look add a groovy headband and even a hippie wig if your hair isn’t quite long enough. If being a hippie does not appeal to you then the 60s was also the era of the mod look with simple blocks of colour, mini-dresses and lots of mascara for women and slick suits and pinstripes for men. Alternatively you could go for one of the more famous looks of the day by mimicking the Beatles and their colourful outfits (think Sergeant Pepper and you’re on the right track). |
